From Atlanta to Modish: A 15-Year-Old’s journey in Hijab and Style
Share
Hey empowered girls/women! I am thrilled to share my story as a 15-year-old Somali Muslim from Atlanta, Georgia, who dared to dream big! Modish is not just a store; it is a place where modesty meets stylish, and where we can all feel empowered – whether you wear a hijab or not!
Growing up, I often felt the tug-of-war between wanting to express my identity and the pressures of fitting in. Here is what I learned on my journey:
- Whether you wear a hijab or are still figuring it out, remember that your journey is yours alone! Your style should reflect who you are. So if you are rocking a hijab, own it! And if you are still exploring, that is totally okay too. No rush, no pressure!
- Let’s be real: sometimes, people can be a bit … well, cruel. If you have faced weird looks or comments, just remember: they are probably just jealous of your fabulousness! A little humor can go a long way. Just flash a smile and keep strutting your stuff.
- Surround yourself with supportive friends who lift you up! Lean into your family and your circle of community to reinforce the wonderful human being you are. Whether you are in Atlanta, Amsterdam, Rome, London, Cairo, Fez, Dubai, Doha, and everywhere in between, find your tribe. Connect with other girls online who share your experiences. You are not alone, and together, we can conquer the world!
My journey has not been perfect, but it has taught me that confidence is key. Whether you choose to wear a hijab or not, what matters is that you embrace your true self. So, let us inspire each other, bring our unique styles to the table, and show the world our strength!
